Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

An Italian seaside village conjured whole — harbor, piazza, and opera at sunset — where the room key doubles as a skip-the-line pass.

Best forExpress-math families, celebration trips, and anyone who wants la dolce vita between coasters
01 · The Vibe

The Riviera, re-created

Portofino Bay recreates the Ligurian fishing village of Portofino down to the trompe-l'oeil facades and the boats bobbing in the harbor — it's the hotel Universal built to prove the resort could do romance, not just adrenaline. Evenings are the show: Musica della Notte brings opera singers to the piazza at sunset, and the whole bay glows.

It's the flagship of the Signature Collection, and it runs at a gentler tempo than the parks — which is exactly the trick. You spend the morning on coasters and the afternoon feeling like you flew to Italy.

02 · The Rooms

The resort's biggest standard rooms

Rooms are the largest standard accommodations on Universal property, dressed in Mediterranean creams and woods, many overlooking the bay or the piazza. Kids' suites add a separate themed room for the under-twelves, and club-level unlocks a lounge with all-day nibbles.

Families of five have real options here, and connecting-room strategy works well — tell us who's coming and we'll map the wing that fits.

03 · Pools & Dining

Three pools and a proper Sunday sauce

The Beach Pool is the family hub — zero-entry sand, a Roman-aqueduct waterslide, and cabanas — with the quieter Villa and Hillside pools hiding around the property for grown-up laps. Dining runs deep: Mama Della's Ristorante with strolling musicians, Bice for the celebration dinner, Sal's Market Deli for the best pizza on property, and gelato at the harbor because you're on vacation.

Trattoria del Porto handles breakfast, and the Thirsty Fish pours harborside. You could eat here three nights and not repeat a mood.

04 · Perks & Fine Print

The famous Express math

Here's the headline perk: every registered guest gets Unlimited Express Pass for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure — skip the regular lines all day, every day of your stay, including check-in and check-out days. For a family of four in peak season, that perk alone can out-value the room rate. Note the fine print we always flag: Express at Epic Universe is a separate, limited product and isn't included.

Add early park admission and resort-wide charging privileges, and the flagship starts looking like the budget move. We run this spreadsheet for every Universal quote — it's the whole reason to talk to us first.

05 · Getting Around

Water taxi or garden path

Mahogany water taxis glide from the hotel's dock to CityWalk, where both classic parks are a short walk — count on 15 to 20 minutes door to gate, and it's a lovely commute. A garden walking path covers the same ground on foot, and shuttles handle Volcano Bay and Epic Universe.

The rhythm this unlocks: rope-drop the parks, boat back for pool hours, boat in again for dinner. No parking lot ever enters the story.

MissMe Tip

Price a Portofino stay before buying Express Passes separately — two nights here with Express included regularly beats a cheaper room plus four days of add-ons. That's the math we run first.
